Name: Salix geyeriana / Deschampsia cespitosa Wet Shrubland
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This shrubland association is currently only described from central and eastern Oregon and has been reported to occur in Montana, Idaho and Utah. Additional global information will be added as it becomes available. One Oregon plot was sampled at 1400 m (4600 feet) elevation in a low-gradient valley. Microtopography is flat on a broad, moist floodplain with an organic loam soil. The surface organic layer is 45 cm thick and the water table depth was 5 cm at the time of sampling. 90% of the soil surface was bare and 10% covered by litter. Salix geyeriana and Ribes aureum form a scattered shrub overstory. The site is on the moist end of Deschampsia cespitosa distribution and Carex nebrascensis is nearly codominant in the herbaceous layer. Other graminoids and forbs are scattered through the herbaceous layer in small amounts and may include Poa pratensis, Hordeum brachyantherum, Montia chamissoi, Potentilla gracilis, Epilobium anagallidifolium, Rudbeckia occidentalis, and Galium triflorum.
