Description: This association forms sparse to open shrublands. Eriogonum fasciculatum is typically dominant in the shrub layer. Co-occurring species include Ambrosia dumosa, Bebbia juncea, Ephedra nevadensis, Krameria erecta, Larrea tridentata, Viguiera parishii, and Yucca schidigera. Juniperus californica is also sometimes present at sparse cover. It commonly associates with other upper-elevation alliances such as Juniperus californica, Pinus monophylla, Quercus cornelius-mulleri, and Salazaria mexicana. Total vegetation cover ranges from 2-20%. This association occurs at mid to upper elevations on rocky slopes to ridgelines in the Mojave Desert and western Colorado Desert regions in California, and in Baja California, Mexico. Stands have also been identified in Lake Mead National Recreation Area, the Newberry Mountains, and Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area in Nevada, on west to Joshua Tree National Park in California.
