Description: This association occurs above treeline on a variety of sites. Soils are usually well-drained, but can be somewhat poorly drained. <i>Phyllodoce glanduliflora</i> always dominates or codominates this primarily open vegetation type. <i>Cassiope mertensiana</i> is usually present and occasionally codominant. Other species can include <i>Penstemon procerus var. tolmiei, Carex spectabilis, Phyllodoce empetriformis, Lupinus sellulus</i>, and <i>Oreostemma alpigenum</i>. This association occurs above treeline in the Cascade Range and Olympic Mountains.
