Name: Agrostis pallens Grassland
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This herbaceous association is currently only described from central and eastern Oregon but is also reported to occur in Washington. Additional global information will be added as it becomes available. Sites sampled were in low- to moderate-gradient, narrow to wide, trough-shaped meadows that are usually in the headwaters of the drainage basin. Streams found in these meadows were 0.5-5 m wide Rosgen F streams with gravel to silt/clay substrates. These streams were probably Rosgen C and/or E streams before they were degraded. The water table is well below the rooting zone by late spring. Agrostis pallens is relatively abundant is tufts that are evenly dispersed across the site. Juncus confusus, Juncus arcticus ssp. littoralis, and Senecio spp. are more abundant on degraded sites. Additional species include Phleum pratense, Deschampsia elongata, Achnatherum occidentale, Epilobium brachycarpum, Taraxacum officinale, Perideridia gairdneri, Potentilla spp., and Achillea millefolium.
