Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This association is currently only described from Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area, Montana. Additional global information will be added as it becomes available. The sampled site is a low gentle slope (1%). Soils are xeric and well-drained, with a soil texture of loamy sand. Bare ground and litter are the dominant features of the unvegetated layer at these sites, with 42 and 50% cover, respectively. Hesperostipa comata and Carex filifolia are the dominant graminoids, though the short-statured native annual Vulpia octoflora is also common. Total cover for the herbaceous layer is 50-75%. Yucca glauca and Gutierrezia sarothrae are two dwarf-shrub species also commonly encountered.
