Name: Deschampsia cespitosa - Carex microptera Wet Meadow
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This association occurs throughout the mountains of north-central and western Wyoming on mesic stream terraces and in mesic meadows. Sites supporting this association may be found over a broad range of elevations, from about 1950 to 2925 m (6400-9600 feet), on subirrigated, well-drained soils developed in alluvium from granite or sedimentary rocks. The vegetation is an herbaceous meadow, usually dense, without shrubs or with only scattered shrubs. Graminoids usually dominate the vegetation, and forbs are secondary, although in some stands, forbs contribute almost as much cover as do the graminoids. Deschampsia cespitosa dominates or codominates the vegetation, and Carex microptera is present, often as a codominant. Common forbs are Symphyotrichum foliaceum, Potentilla gracilis, Polygonum bistortoides, and Caltha leptosepala. Carex aquatilis and Carex utriculata may be present, but they contribute relatively little cover.
