Description: This mesic herbaceous association is described from subalpine meadows in the Sierra Nevada surrounding Lake Tahoe. Most occurrences are on the margins of meadows, and slopes are gentle, not exceeding 15%. Elevations range from 2334 to 2853 m (7658-9360 feet), and snow duration is moderate to long. The water table is usually at least 1 m below the surface during most of the growing season. Total vegetation cover ranges from 85-100% and is characterized by a high percentage cover of the tall herbaceous species <i>Veratrum californicum</i>. Common associated species include <i>Juncus nevadensis, Oreostemma alpigenum var. andersonii, Carex scopulorum, Deschampsia cespitosa</i> and <i>Carex luzulifolia</i>.
