Description: This association occurs in the alpine and in the subalpine parklands in the Olympics on moderate to steep upper slopes (usually southerly aspects) with well-drained soils. This moderately dense vegetation is dominated by <i>Carex spectabilis</i> and <i>Phlox diffusa</i>. <i>Solidago multiradiata</i> is usually prominent and may occur as a codominant in the North Cascade alpine plots. Sites in the Olympics often have <i>Antennaria microphylla, Arenaria capillaris, Erysimum arenicola, Lomatium martindalei, Luzula campestris, Poa cusickii</i> and <i>Polygonum bistortoides</i>. <i>Carex breweri, Danthonia intermedia, Cerastium arvense, Achillea millefolium, Polygonum bistortoides</i>, and <i>Sibbaldia procumbens</i> are regular in alpine sites of the Cascades.
