Name: Coleogyne ramosissima - Purshia stansburiana Shrubland Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019 Description: This blackbrush - cliffrose shrubland association is currently described from Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. It is also reported from California and Nevada. More survey and classification work are needed to fully characterize this type. It occurs on sideslopes and has been observed at 1425 to 1450 m (4650-4775 feet) elevation, but presumably occurs within a wider elevational range. It is primarily found on moderately steep slopes (14-26°), on somewhat protected northwest- to east-facing aspects. Soils are rapidly-drained sandy loams over limestone bedrock. This association is codominated by the short shrubs <i>Coleogyne ramosissima</i> and <i>Purshia stansburiana</i>. Tall shrubs are absent. The short-shrub layer also includes <i>Encelia resinifera</i> and <i>Ephedra viridis</i>. <i>Thamnosma montana</i> is frequently present in a weak dwarf-shrub layer. The non-native <i>Bromus tectorum</i> strongly dominates the graminoid understory, while the native bunchgrass <i>Tridens muticus</i> also occurs in most stands. <i>Sphaeralcea ambigua, Dichelostemma capitatum</i>, and <i>Glandularia gooddingii</i> all consistently occur in a fairly sparse forb layer.  Accession Code: urn:lsid:vegbank.org:commConcept:31628-{9877E88E-FC8D-4114-B1B4-632B5C69705B} Plot-observations of this Community Concept: 0
