Description: This herbaceous association is currently only known from Wupatki National Monument and Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument in Arizona, and the following description is based on occurrences there. Additional global information will be added as it becomes available. At Wupatki, this association is found at 1570 m (5151 feet) on a level basaltic outcrop. At Sunset Crater, elevation ranges from 2300-2250 m, and it occurs on steep slopes (35 and 40%) in cinder gravel. Total vegetation cover ranges from 12-43% and is dominated by the herbaceous layer. Occasional <i>Pinus ponderosa</i> and <i>Eriogonum corymbosum</i> are found in the sparse tree and shrub layers. The herbaceous layer is dominated by <i>Andropogon hallii</i> (10-40%). Total species richness is about 12 species.
