Name: Picea sitchensis - Tsuga heterophylla / Eurhynchium oreganum Forest
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This linear forest plant community occurs on rich, moist high-bench floodplains of rivers that flood every five or more years in coastal British Columbia. The range of this plant community occurs along rivers at lower elevations of the Queen Charlotte Ranges and the outer coast of British Columbia from Smith Inlet to Portland Canal. Large well-spaced trees are characteristic, as is a moderately developed understory and well-developed moss layer. The overstory is dominated by Tsuga heterophylla and Picea sitchensis. The sparse shrub layer consists primarily of regenerating Tsuga heterophylla, and the sparse herb layer is characterized by low cover of Blechnum spicant and Dryopteris expansa. The well-developed moss layer is dominated by Rhytidiadelphus loreus and Hylocomium splendens.
