Description: This association is only known from Curecanti National Recreation Area in western Colorado. The single sampled stand occurs at the bottom of McIntyre Gulch. The site is gently sloped (8%) with an eastern aspect and occurs at 2314 m elevation. Soil is a moderately well-drained silty clay loam. There is high cover of litter and low cover of bare soil on the ground surface. The vegetation is characterized by a moderately closed tree canopy (about 50% cover), dominated by Populus angustifolia trees 20-35 m tall and a moderately dense tall-shrub layer (2-5 m tall), with over 10% cover of Quercus gambelii. Other tall shrubs present may include Amelanchier alnifolia, Rhus trilobata, and Lonicera involucrata. Short shrubs are diverse, provide moderate cover, and include Rosa woodsii, Juniperus communis, Juniperus scopulorum, Mahonia repens, Dasiphora fruticosa ssp. floribunda, and Symphoricarpos rotundifolius. Seedling Quercus gambelii are also present and provide sparse cover. The herbaceous layer is moderately diverse and provides low cover.
