Description: This small-patch coniferous forest community occurs on rocky headlands and beachplains along shorelines where they are exposed to salt spray on the coast of British Columbia. These sites occur at elevations from 0 to 650 m. The range of this plant community is the outer coast of British Columbia including Vancouver Island. This coniferous forest community has a moderately open Picea sitchensis canopy, with a well-developed shrub layer dominated by Gaultheria shallon, a moderately to poorly developed herb layer dominated by Maianthemum dilatatum, and a moderately well-developed moss layer dominated by Eurhynchium oreganum. The moderately open canopy has high cover of Picea sitchensis, sometimes with low to moderate cover of Tsuga heterophylla. The well-developed shrub layer is characterized by high cover of Gaultheria shallon, with moderate to high cover of regenerating Picea sitchensis, and low cover of Rubus spectabilis, regenerating Tsuga heterophylla, and Rosa nutkana. The moderately to poorly developed herb layer has moderate cover of Maianthemum dilatatum, low cover of Polystichum munitum, and Blechnum spicant. The moderately well-developed moss layer has moderate cover of Eurhynchium oreganum with low cover of other species of mosses and liverworts.
