Description: This association has only been described from Zion National Park. Additional global information will be added as it becomes available. Stands are not widespread in Zion National Park and are likely confined to the vicinity where they were sampled. Stands with <i>Pinus edulis</i> in the tree canopy occur at lower elevations. <i>Purshia stansburiana</i> is the dominant tall shrub in this association with cover of 20-30%. <i>Amelanchier utahensis</i> and <i>Quercus gambelii</i> are present to abundant in the tall-shrub layer. <i>Arctostaphylos patula</i> occurs in the short-shrub layer with 50% cover. Subshrubs present are often <i>Gutierrezia sarothrae</i> and <i>Opuntia</i> spp. <i>Poa fendleriana</i> and <i>Phlox austromontana</i> are commonly present in the herbaceous layer. This association occurs at elevations of approximately 2133 m (7000 feet) on the Twin Brothers mesatop and the steeply sloped mesa rim of Towers of the Virgin. Soils are sandy.
