Description: This association has been reported from Zion National Park, Utah, Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona, and Mojave National Preserve, California. This description is based on occurrences at Zion National Park. Additional global information will be added as it becomes available. At Zion National Park, <i>Pinus monophylla</i> dominates the tree layer in this association with cover of 20% and average height of 5 m. <i>Juniperus osteosperma</i> is present or may be codominant. <i>Coleogyne ramosissima</i> dominates the shrub layer and is accompanied by <i>Purshia tridentata, Artemisia tridentata, Ephedra nevadensis</i>, and <i>Opuntia macrorhiza</i>, all of minimal cover. The herbaceous layer is absent. Stands occur on gentle to moderate sandy slopes at elevations below 1370 m (4500 feet).
