Name: Artemisia arbuscula ssp. longicaulis / Bromus tectorum Ruderal Shrubland
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This shrubland association is a severely degraded form of potentially several associations within the alliance. It is characterized by a shrub layer dominated by Artemisia arbuscula ssp. longicaulis and a graminoid layer completely converted to Bromus tectorum, such that the perennial grasses that may once have dominated the graminoid layer can no longer be determined from what little remains (in some cases the perennial grass may be determined by modeling). This shrubland has been observed covering large areas of alluvial fans coming out of the Virginia Range on the east side of Reno, Nevada. Even in the degraded shrubland where this has been observed, mosses have substantial ground cover under and immediately surrounding many of the shrubs.
