Description: This shrubland association occurs in the Santa Monica Mountains region of California on gentle to steep northwest- and northeast-facing slopes at low elevations between 110 and 701 m. It is characterized by a dominance of <i>Ceanothus megacarpus</i> and a subdominance of <i>Cercocarpus montanus var. glaber</i> in the shrub layer. The herbaceous layer is generally insignificant in mature stands. The emergent tree layer is generally absent but may contain both introduced and native species.
