Name: Juncus parryi - Eriogonum incanum Alpine Snowbed
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This herbaceous association is currently only known from Yosemite National Park in California, and the following description is based on occurrences there. Additional information will be added as it becomes available. This grassland occurs between 3050 and 2500 m (10,000-11,500 feet) of elevation on moderate to steep slopes on variable aspects. Soils are well-drained sandy loams or silt loams derived from metamorphic parent material. Sites are very stony, averaging 60% rock. This grassland is dominated by Juncus parryi. Total vegetative cover for this association averages only 35%. The forb Eriogonum incanum and the graminoid Carex exserta are the only other plants attaining more than trace cover. Poa secunda is a fairly constant graminoid associate. Forbs often associated with this type include Penstemon heterodoxus, Antennaria media, and/or Raillardella argentea. As many as 40 other species may occur at very low cover and constancy values.
