Description: This association occurs at lower elevations on riparian floodplains, streambanks, or terraces in western Washington. Soils are somewhat well-drained. The canopy is dominated by <i>Alnus rubra</i>. <i>Acer circinatum</i> dominates a tall-shrub layer though <i>Rubus spectabilis</i> and other shrubs may be present. <i>Athyrium filix-femina, Claytonia sibirica, Stachys chamissonis var. cooleyae, Polystichum munitum</i>, and <i>Tolmiea menziesii</i> are often present and, collectively, usually have over 10% cover.
