Description: This association occurs only around Lake Ozette on the western Olympic Peninsula of Washington. It is seasonally flooded. The soils are composed primarily of sand with some fibrous and heath peat. The open to closed shrub layer is 0.3-2.0 m tall and dominated primarily by the deciduous <i>Myrica gale</i> and secondarily by <i>Spiraea douglasii</i>. The herb layer is dominated by <i>Boykinia intermedia</i> and <i>Carex obnupta</i>. <i>Deschampsia cespitosa</i> codominates where the shrub canopy is open. An Asteraceae sp. and <i>Dichanthelium acuminatum</i> are usually present. This association is distinguished by the dominance or codominance of <i>Myrica gale, Boykinia intermedia</i>, and <i>Carex obnupta</i>.
