Name: Danthonia californica - Aira caryophyllea Grassland
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This herbaceous association is currently only known from Point Reyes National Seashore in California, and the following description is based on occurrences there. Additional information will be added as it becomes available. This vegetation is found on gentle convex, south-southwest-facing dunes/sandfields. Soil textures range from medium sand or silt. Stands occur adjacent to the dunefields of the North Beach area of the Point Reyes Peninsula. They are on better-drained soils than adjacent flats with Deschampsia cespitosa. Stands of this grassland association form an intermittent herb layer dominated by Danthonia californica and Aira caryophyllea. Plantago lanceolata, Lolium perenne, Rumex acetosella, and Bromus hordeaceus may also be present. It is often found adjacent to introduced perennial grasslands and Juncus meadows.
