Name: Purshia tridentata - Artemisia tridentata - Symphoricarpos rotundifolius Shrubland Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019 Description: This shrubland association is currently only known from Yosemite National Park in California, and the following description is based on occurrences there. Additional information will be added as it becomes available. Stands of this shrubland are found between 2195 and 2500 m (7200-8200 feet) elevation on moderate to steep slopes. Aspects are variable and stands prefer low and midslopes. Soils are sandy or silt loams derived from igneous or metamorphic rock. This vegetation is characterized by an open to intermittent shrub canopy between 1-5 m in height dominated by <i>Artemisia tridentata</i>. <i>Purshia tridentata, Symphoricarpos rotundifolius</i>, and <i>Cercocarpus ledifolius</i> complete the shrub canopy. Emergent individuals of <i>Pinus jeffreyi</i> may be present. The herbaceous layer is rather sparse and dominated by forbs. <i>Wyethia mollis, Castilleja applegatei, Calochortus superbus, Lupinus argenteus, Descurainia californica</i>, and/or <i>Castilleja pilosa</i> each provide a scant amount of cover.
