Description: This shrubland association occurs on somewhat steep to steep northeast- and northwest-facing slopes at low elevations between 336 and 677 m. It is characterized by the dominance of <i>Ceanothus oliganthus</i> and subdominance of <i>Heteromeles arbutifolia</i> in the shrub layer. The herbaceous layer is generally sparse. The emergent tree layer includes occasional <i>Juglans californica</i> and <i>Quercus agrifolia</i>.
