Description: This shrubland association occurs on moderately steep to very steep northeast- and northwest-facing slopes at low elevations between 0 and 692 m. It is characterized by a strong dominance of <i>Ceanothus spinosus</i> in the shrub layer and may include a wide variety of mesophytic species in the herbaceous layer, none apparently in high constancy. The emergent tree layer includes <i>Quercus agrifolia</i> and <i>Juglans californica</i>.
