Description: This woodland/shrubland association occurs in the Santa Monica Mountains region of California on moderately steep to very steep northeast-facing slopes at low elevations between 33 and 743 m. It is characterized by dominance of <i>Cercocarpus montanus var. glaber</i> and subdominance to codominance of <i>Malosma laurina</i> in the shrub layer. <i>Melica imperfecta</i> and scattered other native and non-native species occur in the herbaceous layer. The emergent tree layer includes infrequent <i>Quercus agrifolia</i> and <i>Umbellularia californica</i>.
