Description: This shrubland association occurs on somewhat steep to steep slopes of variable aspect at low elevations between 230 and 563 m. It is characterized by a codominance of <i>Quercus berberidifolia</i> and <i>Ceanothus spinosus</i> in the shrub layer. The simple herbaceous layer often includes the vine <i>Marah macrocarpus</i>. The emergent tree layer occasionally includes <i>Quercus agrifolia</i>.
