Description: This association includes clay-based Carolina bays and other seasonally flooded depressions in the Middle and Inner Coastal Plain of North Carolina and South Carolina, dominated by an open to closed canopy of <i>Taxodium ascendens</i> (or sometimes <i>Nyssa biflora</i>), with a dense shrub layer of <i>Cyrilla racemiflora, Zenobia pulverulenta</i> (white form), <i>Lyonia lucida, Vaccinium fuscatum, Vaccinium formosum</i>, and <i>Ilex amelanchier</i>.
