Description:
This community occurs on ledges of Mississippian limestone in the Southern Cliff Section of Kentucky (222Eo). Dominant species include <i>Schizachyrium scoparium, Sporobolus compositus var. compositus, Sporobolus clandestinus, Danthonia spicata, Carex eburnea, Liatris squarrulosa, Rudbeckia fulgida var. fulgida, Symphyotrichum oblongifolium, Stenaria nigricans</i>, and <i>Manfreda virginica</i>. Other frequent species include <i>Panicum flexile, Scleria triglomerata, Minuartia patula, Hypericum dolabriforme, Euphorbia corollata, Lespedeza</i> spp., <i>Galactia</i> spp., <i>Lithospermum canescens, Solidago sphacelata, Helianthus hirsutus, Verbesina virginica var. virginica, Silphium trifoliatum, Aquilegia canadensis, Euphorbia commutata</i>, and <i>Blephilia ciliata</i>. This community is associated with <i>Quercus muehlenbergii - Quercus</i> spp. forest in which the subcanopy may be dominated by <i>Juniperus virginiana</i> (this being regarded as a symptom of fire suppression).
