Description: This type includes very wet or partially submerged forb vegetation of rivershores and lakeshores, and sometimes of artificial ponds, lakes, and impoundments of the southeastern United States. Examples are typically dominated by some combination of <i>Pontederia cordata</i> and <i>Peltandra virginica</i>. Associates may include <i>Nuphar advena, Glyceria striata, Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani, Schoenoplectus americanus</i>, and <i>Sagittaria latifolia</i>. On the Natchez Trace Parkway of Mississippi, the herbaceous layer is overwhelmingly dominated by <i>Peltandra virginica</i>; additional herbs may include <i>Hibiscus moscheutos, Panicum virgatum, Polygonum convolvulus, Polygonum pensylvanicum</i>, and vines of <i>Nekemias arborea</i> and <i>Apios americana</i>. In addition, there may be scattered shrubs, including <i>Cephalanthus occidentalis, Rubus argutus</i>, and <i>Sambucus nigra ssp. canadensis</i>.
