Name: Quercus hemisphaerica - Carya glabra - (Quercus virginiana) Forest
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This is a poorly understood and documented hardwood association found in the outer portions of the East Gulf Coastal Plain. It is best known in Florida where examples are dominated by Quercus nigra, Magnolia grandiflora, Carya glabra, and Quercus hemisphaerica, with Quercus hemisphaerica usually dominant, but is also found rarely in Mississippi and possibly in Alabama. Related hardwood forests or hammocks of the region with Quercus geminata are covered by another association. This community occurs on dry upper slopes with reduced fire frequencies. More information is needed on the floristic composition of this type.
