Description: This community occurs at moderate to high elevations in the Chisos Mountains, in relatively moist situations. The open canopy consists of 4- to 15-m <i>Pinus cembroides, Quercus grisea, Juniperus deppeana, Juniperus flaccida</i>, and <i>Juniperus coahuilensis</i>. The shrub layer is open, and consists of <i>Agave havardiana, Dasylirion leiophyllum, Nolina erumpens</i>, and <i>Salvia regla</i>. The herbaceous stratum is dominated by <i>Muhlenbergia emersleyi</i>, but is diverse and also includes <i>Bothriochloa barbinodis, Lycurus</i> sp., <i>Muhlenbergia rigida, Eragrostis</i> sp., and <i>Schizachyrium scoparium var. scoparium</i>.
