Description: This shrubland possibly occurs from Florida northward to North Carolina. It is best documented in South Carolina and Georgia. In some parts of its range, this type can occur as a fringing shrubland, zonal between <i>Zizania aquatica</i> tidal marshes and tidal cypress - gum forests. Less commonly it occupies large patches in freshwater marshes. Stands are dominated by <i>Alnus serrulata</i>. In addition, <i>Rosa palustris</i> may be present, and <i>Zizania aquatica</i> and/or <i>Zizaniopsis miliacea</i> are abundant herbs.
