Name: Celtis laevigata Coastal Plain Ruderal Forest
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This ruderal forest occurs on highly disturbed soils in coastal areas of Georgia, Louisiana, and possibly additional states of the southeastern coastal plains. Celtis laevigata is the strong canopy dominant in this community. However, exotic tree species such as Melia azedarach, Triadica sebifera, and Morus alba may be scattered throughout. Ground cover species are variable but may include Rubus trivialis and Nekemias arborea. Examples occur near the ports of Savannah (Chatham County, Georgia), and at Jean Lafitte National Park (Jefferson Parish, Louisiana).
