Name: Ambrosia eriocentra - (Coleogyne ramosissima) Dwarf-shrubland Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019 Description: This shrubland association is currently described from Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. More survey and classification work are needed to fully characterize this type. It occurs on sideslopes from 1400 to 1500 m (4575-5000 feet) elevation, but has been found as high as 1600 m (5250 feet). It is typically found on east- to south-facing, moderately sloping gradients (10-20°), but also occasionally occurs on steeper slopes (30°). Soils are rapidly-drained sandy loams that lie on top of limestone. <i>Ambrosia eriocentra</i> dominates the short-shrub layer and characterizes this association. <i>Purshia stansburiana, Coleogyne ramosissima</i>, and <i>Yucca baccata</i> occur in the short-shrub stratum of almost all stands as well, while <i>Encelia resinifera</i> and <i>Ephedra viridis</i> occur occasionally. The fairly sparse dwarf-shrub layer typically includes <i>Agave utahensis</i> and <i>Gutierrezia microcephala</i>, and sometimes also includes <i>Opuntia basilaris</i> and <i>Echinocereus triglochidiatus</i>. The graminoid understory is relatively well-developed and frequently supports <i>Tridens muticus</i> and the exotic <i>Bromus tectorum</i>. <i>Erodium cicutarium</i> (exotic), <i>Sphaeralcea ambigua, Chaetopappa ericoides, Castilleja angustifolia var. dubia</i>, and <i>Mirabilis multiflora</i> are the most common forbs.  Accession Code: urn:lsid:vegbank.org:commConcept:33845-{06B48213-5F96-4D85-9836-0FC55393A4C9} Plot-observations of this Community Concept: 0
