Description: This desert riparian woodland occurs in southern Arizona at elevations of about 1370 m (4490 feet). Sites occur along streams in foothills and mountain canyons where substrates are typically gravelly to sandy alluvium. The vegetation is characterized by the codominance of <i>Platanus wrightii</i> and <i>Quercus oblongifolia</i> in the tree canopy. <i>Juglans major</i> or <i>Quercus emoryi</i> may also be present in the tree canopy. The shrub layer is sparse to moderately dense. Associated species include <i>Baccharis sarothroides, Brickellia</i> spp., <i>Celtis laevigata var. reticulata, Dasylirion wheeleri, Erythrina flabelliformis, Gossypium thurberi, Lycium</i> spp., <i>Mimosa aculeaticarpa var. biuncifera</i>, and <i>Rhus trilobata</i>. The herbaceous layer is sparse to moderately dense and typically dominated by graminoids such as <i>Bouteloua curtipendula</i> and <i>Muhlenbergia rigens</i>, but numerous forbs and other grasses are may be present.
