Name: Abies amabilis - Tsuga heterophylla / Rubus pedatus - Tiarella trifoliata var. unifoliata Forest
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This Pacific silver fir - western hemlock forest of Oregon and Washington has a canopy codominated by Abies amabilis and Tsuga heterophylla. Abies procera and Thuja plicata can also be prominent to codominant. Abies amabilis dominates tree regeneration and occupies over 10% total cover. Plots from the east Cascade contain Picea engelmannii in the canopy. A shrub layer is absent to sparse, frequently with Vaccinium alaskaense or Vaccinium parvifolium (the latter sometimes prominent). The diverse herb layer is characterized by Rubus pedatus, Streptopus lanceolatus var. curvipes, Blechnum spicant, and Tiarella trifoliata var. unifoliata, one or more of which is typically prominent. Achlys californica and/or Achlys triphylla is absent or very low in cover. In the western Cascades and rarely in the Olympics, this association occurs at middle elevations on mesic to moist sites, with well-drained soils, mostly on lower slopes.
