Description: This association is reported from Alaska and Washington. The open canopy is dominated by <i>Picea sitchensis</i>. <i>Tsuga heterophylla</i> may be present in small amounts. The understory is characterized by high cover of <i>Calamagrostis nutkaensis</i>. The shrub layer ranges from sparse to moderately dense. <i>Gaultheria shallon</i> is the most typical shrub. This woodland or open forest association occurs on steep slopes facing the Pacific Ocean.
