Description: This western hemlock forest - Douglas-fir of California, Washington and Oregon has a canopy codominated by <i>Pseudotsuga menziesii</i> and <i>Tsuga heterophylla</i>, with the latter dominating tree regeneration. The well-developed shrub layer is dominated or codominated by <i>Vaccinium alaskaense</i>. <i>Acer circinatum</i> and <i>Vaccinium parvifolium</i> are usually present to codominant. The well-developed herb layer is dominated by <i>Oxalis oregana</i>. <i>Polystichum munitum</i> is usually present to prominent. <i>Cornus unalaschkensis</i> is usually present. In the southwestern Olympic Mountains and possibly in the Carbon River valley at Mount Rainier, Washington, this association occurs at low elevations usually on gentle slopes.
