Name: Abies lasiocarpa - Tsuga mertensiana / Festuca viridula Woodland Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019 Description: This type occurs as tree islands or ribbons in subalpine parkland. The tree canopy is codominated by <i>Abies lasiocarpa</i> and sometimes <i>Tsuga mertensiana</i>. There is no shrub layer. The well-developed herb layer is usually codominated by <i>Festuca viridula, Luzula glabrata var. hitchcockii</i>, and <i>Lupinus arcticus ssp. subalpinus</i> and/or <i>Lupinus latifolius</i>. <i>Festuca viridula</i> has over 10% cover. <i>Eucephalus ledophyllus</i> and <i>Polemonium pulcherrimum</i> are usually prominent. This association occurs at high elevations on northeastern slopes of Mount Rainier, and possibly in the eastern North Cascades, as well as in Oregon.
