Name: Glaux maritima - Poa secunda Rich Fen
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This rich fen is known from Colorado high Rocky Mountains and the San Luis Valley. Overall cover is sparse and limited to halophytes. Glaux maritima is the usual dominant species or it may codominant with other species such as Poa secunda, Distichlis spicata, Puccinellia nuttalliana, Plantago eriopoda, Juncus arcticus ssp. littoralis, and Hordeum jubatum. This community has been found in areas with high salt concentrations in valleys and is usually associated with peat soils with rich groundwater input. Sites are above the water table and wetted by capillary fringe. Soluble salts accumulate to high concentrations and leave the soil surface with a white crust. Soils are 20% organic or less in other locations.
