Description: This scrub association is found at low to mid elevations in the Mojave Desert and southern Great Basin in Arizona, California and southern Nevada. Vegetation is characterized by an open to moderate shrub canopy (3-23% cover) codominated by <i>Ambrosia dumosa</i> and <i>Larrea tridentata</i> with <i>Atriplex hymenelytra</i> characteristically present to codominant. If present, the herbaceous layer is variable, ranging from sparse to open (to 16% cover) with native annual forb <i>Eriogonum inflatum</i> characteristic. It occurs on variable slope positions ranging from 100 to 1050 m elevation. Sites occur on gentle to steep slopes on variable aspects. Soils are variable and are derived from a variety of substrates such as alluvium, conglomerate, gravel, plutonic rock (phaneritic), and sandstone.
