Description: This association is found at mid to upper elevations in the Mojave Desert in California. Vegetation is characterized by an open to moderately dense, often patchy shrub canopy (8-36% cover) codominated by <i>Prunus fasciculata</i> and <i>Ambrosia eriocentra</i> with <i>Salvia dorrii</i> present to codominant. Other shrubs frequently present include <i>Acacia greggii, Cylindropuntia acanthocarpa, Eriogonum fasciculatum, Hymenoclea salsola</i>, and <i>Senna armata</i>. Occasional emergent <i>Juniperus osteosperma, Pinus monophylla</i>, or <i>Yucca brevifolia</i> trees are sometimes present. If present, the herbaceous layer is sparse to moderate, ranging up to 18% cover. Commonly associated native grasses and forbs include <i>Amsinckia</i> spp., <i>Penstemon palmeri, Salvia columbariae, Senecio flaccidus, Sphaeralcea ambigua</i> and <i>Stephanomeria pauciflora</i>, and exotic annuals include <i>Bromus rubens</i> and <i>Erodium cicutarium</i>. Stands are found in drainage channels and arroyos at 1100-1510 m elevation. Sites are on gentle slopes on variable aspects. Soils include sands and sandy loams and are derived from a variety of substrates such as alluvium, gneiss, granite, granodiorite, and rhyolite.
