Name: Yucca schidigera - Eriogonum fasciculatum Shrubland
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This desert scrub association is found at mid to upper elevations in Mojave Desert in California. It is characterized by an open to moderately dense shrub canopy (13-41% cover) codominated by Yucca schidigera and Eriogonum fasciculatum with Acacia greggii, Cylindropuntia acanthocarpa, and Ephedra nevadensis being characteristically present. Many other shrubs are often present. Occasional emergent Yucca brevifolia, Juniperus californica, or Pinus monophylla trees are sometimes present. If present, the herbaceous layer is typically open and composed of native grasses and forbs, including Achnatherum speciosum, Amsinckia spp., Sphaeralcea ambigua, and exotic annuals Bromus rubens and Erodium cicutarium. Stands occur primarily on rolling, low to midslopes to steeper bedrock exposed ridges at 900-1850 m elevation. Sites have gentle to steep slopes (to 29°) with easterly to southwesterly aspects. Soils are loamy (sandy to clayey loams) and are derived from a variety of substrates, usually granodiorite, rhyolite, alkali-granite (alaskite), alluvium, or gneiss.
