Description: This open-canopy Atlantic white-cedar swamp occurs along streams of the Delmarva peninsula. It is also found in artificial mill ponds. The substrate is peat and muck characterized by hummock-and-hollow microtopography. The tree canopy is characterized by low-stature <i>Chamaecyparis thyoides</i> in association with <i>Pinus taeda</i>. Other woody associates include <i>Alnus maritima ssp. maritima, Morella cerifera, Ilex glabra</i>, and <i>Clethra alnifolia</i>. The herbaceous layer is composed of <i>Decodon verticillatus, Peltandra virginica, Nymphaea odorata, Carex exilis, Dichanthelium dichotomum, Oxypolis rigidior, Triadenum virginicum, Dulichium arundinaceum, Glyceria obtusa, Rhynchospora alba, Carex atlantica, Selaginella apoda, Drosera rotundifolia, Juncus militaris, Vaccinium macrocarpon, Calopogon tuberosus</i>, and <i>Eriocaulon decangulare</i>. Floating mats within mill ponds have a unique species assemblage including <i>Xyris difformis, Fuirena</i> spp., <i>Hypericum mutilum, Juncus pelocarpus, Juncus canadensis, Fimbristylis</i> sp., and <i>Rhynchospora macrostachya</i>.
