Description: This northern hardwood forest occurs on cool, lower slopes in the Highlands and possibly Ridge and Valley of New Jersey. Tree species include <i>Acer saccharum</i> (50-75%), <i>Quercus rubra</i> (25-50%), <i>Betula alleghaniensis</i> (10-25%), and less than 5% each of <i>Betula lenta, Acer rubrum, Castanea dentata</i> (sprouts). Shrubs include <i>Viburnum acerifolium, Hamamelis virginiana</i>, and <i>Corylus cornuta</i>. Ground cover includes <i>Aralia nudicaulis</i>.
