Description: Red maple swamp occurring on the Inner Coastal Plain and the western edge of Outer Coastal Plain of New Jersey. The canopy is usually dominated by <i>Acer rubrum</i>, with associates such as <i>Quercus phellos</i> and <i>Ilex opaca</i>. Typical shrubs include <i>Vaccinium corymbosum, Lindera benzoin, Alnus serrulata, Viburnum dentatum</i>. The vine <i>Smilax rotundifolia</i> can be very thick, especially in disturbed wetlands. <i>Osmunda cinnamomea, Onoclea sensibilis, Woodwardia areolata</i>, and <i>Sphagnum</i> spp. are typically present.
