Description: This Atlantic Coastal Plain pondshore of New England and possibly Ontario occurs on oligotrophic, sandy-bottomed ponds with permanent water. The substrate is sand or gravelly sand with or without a thin organic layer of peaty muck at the surface. The vegetation is of low height, characterized by <i>Eriocaulon aquaticum, Eleocharis acicularis</i>, and <i>Lobelia dortmanna</i>. Associates include <i>Nymphoides cordata, Gratiola aurea</i>, and <i>Schoenoplectus pungens</i>. Few other species occur, and <i>Sphagnum</i> is notably absent.
