Description: This saturated peatland forest is dominated by <i>Chamaecyparis thyoides</i> with a dense shrub layer dominated by <i>Rhododendron maximum</i>. It occurs in southern New Hampshire, Massachusetts, southern Rhode Island and Connecticut, southeastern New York and northern New Jersey. Associated canopy trees may include <i>Acer rubrum, Betula alleghaniensis, Tsuga canadensis</i>, or <i>Nyssa sylvatica</i>. Associated shrubs are generally few and of low cover but may include <i>Kalmia latifolia, Vaccinium corymbosum, Rhododendron viscosum, Ilex verticillata, Nemopanthus mucronatus</i>, and <i>Kalmia angustifolia</i>. The herbaceous layer is generally sparse due to the dense shade cast by shrubs, but may include <i>Trientalis borealis, Carex collinsii, Osmunda cinnamomea</i>. Typical <i>Sphagnum</i> mosses include <i>Sphagnum magellanicum, Sphagnum fallax, Sphagnum fimbriatum, Sphagnum russowii, Sphagnum recurvum</i>.
