Description: This maritime graminoid marsh is currently known from morainal landscapes of southern New England but may be of wider distribution. This vegetation has been documented from Nomans Land Island National Wildlife Refuge in Massachusetts and Block Island, Rhode Island. It occurs on the edges of seasonally flooded ponds or in isolated basin wetlands. The substrate is a variable layer of much overlying sand. <i>Panicum virgatum</i> is dominant but is widely variable among occurrences and may include a number of other associates including <i>Viola lanceolata, Typha latifolia, Euthamia graminifolia, Spartina pectinata</i>, with scattered individuals of <i>Morella pensylvanica</i>. Other species recorded at wetlands of this type include <i>Solidago rugosa, Agalinis purpurea, Toxicodendron radicans, Juncus canadensis, Thelypteris palustris, Onoclea sensibilis, Hypericum mutilum, Cladium mariscoides, Cyperus strigosus</i>, and <i>Triadenum virginicum</i>.
