Description: This association includes small, isolated, <i>Populus heterophylla</i>-dominated seasonally flooded ponds in upland situations in the Coastal Plain of Delaware and possibly New Jersey. It is codominated by <i>Populus heterophylla, Acer rubrum, Quercus palustris, Nyssa sylvatica</i>, and <i>Liquidambar styraciflua</i> in the canopy. There are few species in the understory; some understory associates can include <i>Acer rubrum, Fraxinus pennsylvanica</i>, and <i>Clethra alnifolia</i>. The herbaceous layer is dominated by <i>Microstegium vimineum</i>. <i>Osmunda regalis</i> and <i>Polygonum hydropiperoides</i> are also present in the herbaceous layer, and <i>Smilax laurifolia</i> is present as a vine. The example of this community at Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge is impacted by beavers and is a degraded example.
